Mercedes-Benz Launches 'New Actros' Featuring Extensive Adoption of Latest Technologies
[Asia Economy Reporter Kiho Sung] Mercedes-Benz Trucks unveiled the New Actros, which integrates over 60 advanced new technologies along with five major innovations, for the first time in the domestic market on the 10th.
The 5th generation Actros, revealed at IAA 2018 held in Hanover, Germany, was introduced to the domestic market through a digital launch amid the COVID-19 pandemic. In his greeting, Cho Gyusang, CEO of Daimler Trucks Korea, said, “Although modern society is rapidly changing, some things remain constant,” adding, “Trucks you can trust is Mercedes-Benz Trucks’ unwavering promise to communicate with and earn the trust of our customers, and the way to keep that promise is to continuously pursue innovation.”
The newly introduced New Actros pursues road efficiency aimed at maximizing overall transport efficiency. In addition, more than 60 innovative technologies, unseen in previous generations, have been widely applied not only to visible parts but also to invisible components.
In particular, it is equipped with the industry’s first MirrorCam, a commercialized partial autonomous driving system called Active Drive Assist (ADA), Active Brake Assist 5 (ABA 5) which automatically brakes upon detecting moving pedestrians, the digital driving space Multimedia Cockpit that allows communication with the truck to ‘control’ it, and another smart driver aid, the predictive cruise control+ (PPC+) that reduces fuel costs and driving stress.
Among these, the MirrorCam reduces fuel consumption by approximately 1.3% (maximum, based on European standards), and together with the predictive cruise control+ (PPC+), which optimizes engine output and gear shifting according to terrain, it reduces fuel consumption by about 5% compared to previous models (European standards).
The New Actros tractor model lineup is presented with three cab types (GigaSpace, StreamSpace, ClassicSpace) and three interior design concepts (StyleLine, TrendLine, Standard).
The eco-friendly inline 6-cylinder engine equipped in the New Actros offers excellent economy and durability, and delivers powerful performance even at low speeds thanks to a newly custom-made high-performance turbocharger. Additionally, the X-Pulse high-pressure common rail system, which precisely controls fuel injection, minimizes harmful emissions while improving fuel efficiency.
