Seoul Museum of Art and Hannefken Foundation Collaborative Exhibition 'Where the Wave Has Passed'
Until November 1, at the Seoul Museum of Art Buk-Seoul Branch
[Asia Economy Reporter Byunghee Park] The Seoul Museum of Art will hold the collection-themed exhibition "Where the Wave Has Passed" at the Seoul Museum of Art Buk-Seoul Museum until November 1.
This exhibition was prepared in collaboration with Spain's Hannefken Foundation based on this year's institutional agenda of the Seoul Museum of Art, "Collection." Fourteen media collection works from the Seoul Museum of Art and the Hannefken Foundation are introduced, featuring 13 participating artists. The museum and the foundation decided to present the media collection exhibition "Where the Wave Has Passed" following their joint planning of the "Korean Video Art Production Award 2019 (winners: Mujin Brothers)" last year.
The Hannefken Foundation was established in 2009 in Barcelona, Spain. It is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting video art production and promoting artists. So far, it has conducted video art awards with institutions such as the Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art (MCABA), Bangkok Art and Culture Centre (BACC), ARCO Madrid, and LOOP Barcelona. The Seoul Museum of Art is the first institution in Korea to collaborate with the foundation.
The exhibition title "Where the Wave Has Passed" is taken from the novel "The Light Between Oceans" by Australian author M. L. Stedman and symbolizes numerous historical events such as commerce, trade, imperialism, and globalization that occurred through the sea. The waves driven by the dynamic power of the sea repeatedly break into white foam and eventually reach the land, leaving traces of a long passage of time.
The purpose of "Where the Wave Has Passed" is to once again focus on the passion and imagination of modern subjects who lived in this world, propelled history forward, and sought to transform our essential lives.

Ho! Ho! Merry Christmas: Battle of Easel Point - Okinawa Memorial Project, 2003," Dean Cure's "Colony, 2017," and Gabriel Mascaro's "Tides, 2012," presented in sequence.
"Where the Wave Has Passed" creates an exhibition environment that allows visitors to immerse themselves in the diverse narratives embedded in the works, reflecting the backgrounds and environments of artists of various nationalities. Additionally, as an exhibition collaboratively organized by two institutions from different regions, Seoul and Barcelona, it introduces the historical tensions that have traversed modern times in their own ways through media art.
