[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Chaeseok] The government announced on the 31st that it plans to invest 25 billion KRW in 11 graduate schools by 2024 to cultivate technology management professionals.
The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced on the 31st that it has additionally selected the graduate schools of Gyeongsang National University and Jeonbuk National University for the Technology Management Professional Training Project (Convergence Technology Commercialization Professional Training Project), increasing the number from 9 to 11.
The project is a master's and doctoral expert training program that applies and commercializes new technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and big data across the manufacturing industry.
So far, the project has been promoted mainly at technology management graduate schools in the Seoul metropolitan area, such as Sogang University and Hoseo University, but considering the demand from regional industries, two additional graduate schools were selected.
The graduate schools of Gyeongsang National University and Jeonbuk National University will focus on cultivating practical personnel who solve field problems through industry-academia cooperation projects linked to regional specialized industries.
Gyeongsang National University Graduate School will focus on smart manufacturing technology commercialization in the machinery and aerospace fields, while Jeonbuk National University Graduate School will concentrate on training experts in future automobiles and intelligent machinery fields.
Starting with recruiting 30 new master's students next year, the two graduate schools plan to produce more than 130 master's and doctoral professionals over four years.
The training project will be promoted in two phases starting this year. A total of 25 billion KRW will be supported to 11 graduate schools by 2024.
From 2015 to last year, the first phase produced 434 master's and doctoral graduates (degree type). For non-degree types, 1,064 people received 491 family company-linked training sessions. Additionally, 193 industry-academia cooperation projects were conducted.
