Musical Performances Canceled or Ended Early Due to COVID-19 Spread
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Byung-hee] As confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) surge, numerous musical performances have been canceled this weekend.
CJ ENM, the production company of the musical 'Kinky Boots,' announced on the 22nd that weekend performances on the 22nd and 23rd have been canceled. This is because one of the cast members was confirmed to have had close contact with a COVID-19 positive individual.
CJ ENM stated, "It was confirmed around 11 a.m. on the 22nd that an acquaintance who had contact with a cast member of this performance tested positive for COVID-19." They added, "The cast member immediately underwent a COVID-19 test and is currently in self-quarantine." Furthermore, "The test results are expected by tomorrow morning, and to ensure the safety of all actors, staff, and audience members, today's and tomorrow's performances have been canceled." They also said, "We will promptly announce the test results and any further decisions."
CJ ENM conveyed, "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience caused to the audience who have been waiting for 'Kinky Boots' and kindly ask for your understanding." They added that all tickets for the canceled performances will be collectively canceled through the ticketing platform without any cancellation fees.
'Kinky Boots' opened on the 21st at Blue Square Interpark Hall in Yongsan-gu, Seoul.
The musical 'Ludwig: Beethoven The Piano,' currently running at Daehangno TOM 1 Theater, and 'Something Rotten,' performing at Chungmu Art Hall Grand Theater in Jung-gu, also canceled their performances on the 22nd and 23rd. This was due to confirmed contact between cast members and COVID-19 cases.
