Party-Government-Blue House "Actively Considering 4th Supplementary Budget... Moon Government's Promise Put to the Test"
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] The Democratic Party of Korea, the government, and the Blue House have announced that they will actively consider the 4th supplementary budget. They plan to make full use of the preliminarily allocated contingency funds to secure resources for raising disaster relief funds, supporting recovery costs, and allocating special local government grants.
Lee Hae-chan, leader of the Democratic Party, said in his opening remarks at the 'High-level Party-Government-Blue House Meeting on Heavy Rain Damage Measures' held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 12th, "There is a need to secure more disaster contingency funds. We must use the budget as frugally as possible for the safety of the people, but we must not be stingy."
He added, "The current situation should be treated not just as heavy rain countermeasures but as disaster countermeasures," and said, "Please quickly assess how much the recovery costs will be this time, promptly support available resources such as contingency funds, and consider organizing disaster relief funds for necessary parts."
He continued, "There are many regions too large for local governments in charge of the field to respond at once. I have also heard many appeals that it is difficult for local governments to cover recovery costs," and said, "I hope the government will consider allocating special disaster safety grants."
Kim Tae-nyeon, floor leader of the Democratic Party, said, "We will carefully examine whether the current contingency funds and budget are sufficient," and added, "If deemed necessary, we will actively consider the 4th supplementary budget."
He also said, "In addition to the seven areas previously designated as special disaster zones, other areas should be promptly designated," and added, "We will allocate a budget for a smart disaster safety management system within the Green New Deal project to expand a permanent disaster prevention system."
Prime Minister Chung Sye-kyun said, "Government support is urgent and essential," and added, "The Moon Jae-in administration's promise to protect the safety and lives of the people, which is the basic responsibility of the state, is now being tested." He continued, "We will respond with all available means such as contingency funds and disaster relief funds," and added, "We will also realize disaster relief funds and provide support in a timely manner."
