Qualcomm Fast Charging Technology 'Quick Charge 5' Unveiled... Supports 100W Power
Can Charge from 0 to 50% in 5 Minutes
Charging Speed 4 Times Faster Compared to Previous Model
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Qualcomm announced 'Quick Charge 5,' a fast charging technology optimized for Android devices, on the 28th.
Quick Charge 5 is a fast charging platform that supports over 100W (watts) of power on smartphones. It is designed to charge devices up to 50 percent in just 5 minutes. It features improved charging speed and efficiency compared to its predecessor.
Commercial products equipped with Quick Charge 5 are expected to be released in the third quarter. Quick Charge 5 will be supported on premium high-end Snapdragon mobile platforms, including Snapdragon 865 and 865+, as well as future models.
Quick Charge 5 is more than 70% more efficient than its predecessor (Quick Charge 4) and offers charging speeds up to 4 times faster. It provides 10 times higher power supply compared to Quick Charge 1. The Quick Charge 5 solution supports 2S batteries and power supply up to 20V.
Quick Charge 5 includes 12 individual voltage, current, and temperature protection features, such as USB input 25V overvoltage protection and external power control devices over 30V. It operates at temperatures up to 10 degrees lower than its predecessor due to improved power efficiency. Quick Charge 5 features dual and triple charging technologies, input voltage regulation, and Intelligent Negotiation for Optimal Voltage Management 4 (INOV4).
The Quick Charge technology can be applied to automotive adapters, more than 1,200 mobile devices and accessories. It is backward compatible with existing Snapdragon mobile platform-based devices. Supporting charging technology over 100W, it operates within the same range as the existing 45W solution, so users do not need to purchase additional Quick Charge certified accessories across their devices.
