What Are the 9 New Hyundai-Kia Models Releasing in the Second Half of This Year?
[Asia Economy Reporter Su-yeon Woo] Hyundai Kia Motors will launch nine new car models in the domestic market in the second half of this year. This strategy aims to leverage a more aggressive new car effect in the second half to make up for the sluggish performance in the first half caused by the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19).
According to the industry on the 26th, Hyundai Kia Motors plans to release a total of nine new models in the second half, including the facelifted Santa Fe, fully redesigned Tucson, facelifted Kona, facelifted Genesis G70, GV70, fully redesigned Carnival, fully redesigned Sportage, facelifted Stinger, and facelifted Stonic.
The first model to kick off Hyundai Kia Motors' new car lineup in the second half is Hyundai's facelifted Santa Fe. This model is a facelift of the 4th generation Santa Fe, released after two years, transformed into a new car level by applying a new platform and powertrain.
The new Santa Fe features a next-generation platform that optimizes design to enhance space utilization. Compared to the previous Santa Fe, the overall length has increased by 15mm, the second-row legroom by 34mm, improving interior comfort, and the cargo capacity behind the second row has expanded by 9 liters to 634 liters.
The new powertrain combines the 'Smartstream D2.2' engine with the highly responsive 'Smartstream wet 8DCT transmission.' It delivers a maximum output of 202 horsepower and a maximum torque of 45.0 kg·m, achieving a fuel efficiency of 14.2 km/ℓ, which is a 4.4% improvement compared to the previous Santa Fe.
Following the Santa Fe, the next model preparing for launch is Kia's fully redesigned 4th generation Carnival. Kia recently revealed the exterior and interior design and key convenience features of the 4th generation Carnival, with specifications including powertrain and pricing to be disclosed at the launch event in August.
First, the new Carnival's exterior design is completed with a futuristic image. With dimensions of 5155mm in length, 1995mm in width, and 1740mm in height, it is 40mm longer and 10mm wider than the previous model, creating a dynamic and grand appearance. Additionally, the wheelbase has been extended by 30mm compared to the previous model to secure legroom space, enhancing interior space utilization.
The front design features an evolved Symphonic Architecture radiator grille that eliminates the boundary with the headlamps, giving a luxurious yet futuristic feel. The daytime running lights visually embody rhythm and beat to maximize beauty, while the air intake grille and air curtains contrast with the chrome garnish running across the lower bumper, expressing a strong presence.
The rear features slim rear combination lamps connected left to right, designed with the same graphic shape as the front for a sense of unity. The chrome garnish running horizontally across the rear from the C-pillar, the rear combination lamps, and the central line of the tailgate are all designed horizontally to complete a cohesive look.
The interior design applies a panoramic display integrating a 12.3-inch cluster and a 12.3-inch navigation system, enhancing visibility and creating a futuristic space. The center fascia buttons are implemented in a touch format, combining design and convenience.
Also, since multipurpose vehicles (MPVs) prioritize space, the design particularly considers second-row users. The second-row seats are equipped with 'Premium Relaxation Seats' that provide the most optimal posture for passengers, and an expandable center console maximizes space utilization.
The expandable center console's storage capacity has increased from 3 liters to 5.5 liters, and it can be easily pulled out like a drawer from the bottom of the console box when needed, allowing the upper part of the storage space to be used as a table.
