Han Byung-do Declares Candidacy for Supreme Council Member: "Lived as President Moon's Hands and Feet... Will Devote Myself to Regime Reestablishment"
[Asia Economy Reporter Wondara] Han Byung-do, a Democratic Party lawmaker (re-elected, Iksan-eul, Jeonbuk), has announced his candidacy for the Democratic Party's Supreme Council member election. Han said, "I experienced both the pain of defeat and the glory of victory right beside President Moon Jae-in," adding, "I will dedicate myself to the success of the Moon Jae-in administration and the reestablishment of the Democratic Party government."
On the afternoon of the 21st, Han held a press conference at the National Assembly to declare his candidacy, stating, "I, Han Byung-do, who has lived as the hands and feet of President Moon, will now become the hands and feet of Democratic Party members. Just as I served as a bridge connecting the Blue House with the government and ruling party, I will become the 'Democratic Party's Chief Political Secretary' connecting the Blue House and the ruling party, the president and the people, and the ruling and opposition parties," he emphasized.
Han said, "I have been with President Moon for over eight years. In the 2012 presidential election, I worked hard with the people for the election of candidate Moon Jae-in," adding, "As much as I longed for victory, the wounds of defeat were deep, but looking at Moon who trusted the people, I was able to stand up again and prepare for the next challenge."
He continued, "Overcoming the wounds of the presidential election defeat, I became Moon Jae-in's feet and traveled all over the country. I became his hands and held hands with the people," adding, "Thus, we finally brought about the birth of 'President Moon Jae-in' in 2017. I was called to serve as the Blue House Political Secretary and Chief Political Secretary, assisting President Moon for 20 months."
Han said, "Over the past eight years, from the southernmost village to the sandy deserts of Iraq, I went wherever I could be with the president. From Blue House Political Secretary and Chief Political Secretary to Presidential Special Envoy for Diplomacy, I worked hard in roles beyond my merit," adding, "After 12 years, returning to the National Assembly, I thought about the 'responsibility' of someone who has been with President Moon."
He added, "I will accomplish the reform tasks and national agenda of the Moon Jae-in administration," stating, "I will ensure the ratification of Panmunjom at the National Assembly. I will establish a communication and cooperation system among lawmakers so that reform bills do not fail and pending national agendas gain momentum."
