"Remove Subtitles and Convert Video Quality Easily with AI" SKT Supports Export of 'K-Content'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seulgina Jo] SK Telecom is supporting localization work for the export of K-content by using artificial intelligence (AI) technology to erase Korean subtitles and convert image quality in domestic movies and dramas.
On the 29th, SK Telecom announced that it signed a business agreement with digital content and platform distribution company NEW ID to develop an ‘AI-based post-production platform’ for the export of Hallyu content.
Post-production tasks such as erasing Korean subtitles and removing copyrighted audio tracks from movies, dramas, and other content play a major role in exporting Hallyu content. However, most of these processes are currently done manually, causing high costs and long processing times, which are seen as obstacles to smooth content export.
Accordingly, the two companies plan to combine SK Telecom’s AI-based media element technologies with NEW ID’s media content distribution and platform capabilities to develop an AI-driven automated post-production platform.
SK Telecom will support ▲removal of Korean subtitles within content ▲BGM removal without voice loss ▲real-time scoreboard language conversion in sports broadcast screens ▲upscaling technology that converts Full HD video to 4K or 8K. The reprocessed content using these technologies will be exported to 11 countries including the United States, Canada, and Mexico through NEW ID’s channels.
Through this platform development, the two companies expect to significantly reduce the time and cost required for localization of domestic content and promote the overseas expansion of Hallyu content.
Kim Hyuk, head of SK Telecom’s 5GX Media Business Group, said, “We hope that the development of this AI-based post-production platform will help resolve obstacles such as Korean subtitles and audio copyright issues that have hindered the export of domestic media content,” adding, “We will actively utilize our AI media technologies and continue to contribute to the advancement of the domestic media industry.”
