Apple Prepares Two Mid-Range iPad Models... "Following iPhone SE Strategy"
Introduction of iPad Launch Plans in Ming-Chi Kuo Investor Note
"Preparing 10.8-inch iPad and 9-inch iPad Mini"
"AR Headset Apple Glass Expected to Launch in 2022"
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Apple is applying the 'iPhone SE' strategy to the iPad. Two mid-range iPads equipped with the latest processors will be released in the second half of this year and the first half of next year, respectively.
On the 14th (local time), Ming-Chi Kuo, an Apple specialist analyst at TF Securities, stated in an investor note that Apple will release a 10.8-inch iPad in the second half of this year and an 8.5 to 9-inch iPad mini in the first half of next year.
Ming-Chi Kuo explained, "Apple is developing two affordable iPads modeled after the iPhone SE product strategy," adding, "The selling points are the affordable price and the fast-performing chip." Despite disruptions in the new product development schedule due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Apple is steadily developing new products.
Mid-range iPads account for 60-70% of total iPad shipments. The products Apple is developing have larger screen sizes than the currently sold mid-range iPad (10.2 inches) and iPad mini (7.9 inches). However, it is uncertain whether Apple will reduce the bezel to increase the display size.
Apple is also developing an augmented reality (AR) headset called 'Apple Glass.' Ming-Chi Kuo's analysis suggests a high possibility of release around 2022. Foreign media such as Taiwan's DigiTimes and The Information also anticipate a 2022 release. Apple has invested heavily in the AR field, including AR animal emoticons called 'Animoji,' which mimic human facial expressions.

Apple's AR Glass is expected to have a design similar to Facebook's 'Oculus Quest' but will use lightweight materials such as fabric to allow for long-term wear. It is expected to feature a high-resolution display applied in the iPhone and support a new operating system (OS). Touch panels, voice activation, and head gesture recognition are also expected to be applied.
