Since President Moon Jae-in has pledged to promote the 'Korean New Deal,' the party aims to prepare related policies and regulatory relaxations at the National Assembly level even before the opening of the 21st National Assembly. At the discussion held that day, internet-only banks, telemedicine, and smart healthcare were presented as examples hindering the development of the contactless industry.
On the morning of the 13th, Lee Nak-yeon, Chair of the Democratic Party's COVID-19 National Crisis Response Committee, attended the 'Post-COVID-19 Era Contactless Industry Strategy Forum' held at the National Assembly and said, "The novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) will accelerate the spread of the contactless industry much faster and broaden its scope," adding, "We must complete preparations to a considerable extent even before the opening of the 21st National Assembly." He cited smart farms, smart factories, video conferencing, telecommuting, online classes, and contactless medical services as examples of the contactless industry.
Lee emphasized, "As much as institutional support and regulatory relaxation are necessary, conflict resolution is also essential," stating, "We have already encountered many conflicts during the introduction of the sharing economy. Our party and government must engage in discussions together without delay." He continued, "We must also hasten efforts to address job polarization, income disparity, expansion of social safety nets, and the phased expansion of nationwide employment insurance, which has just begun to be discussed."
Kim Jin-pyo, Emergency Economic Measures Committee Chair of the COVID-19 National Crisis Response Committee, said, "Our country is transitioning from 'social distancing' to 'distancing in daily life,' but no other country in the world can do this. The Group of Twenty (G20) countries will find it difficult to have the energy for economic recovery by the end of the year," adding, "The next six to seven months we have are a golden period." He also stated, "We must attract foreign financial capital to invest in Korea's promising contactless industry companies," and emphasized, "Regulatory relaxation, which the National Assembly must take responsibility for, is an important mission."
Kim Tae-nyeon, Floor Leader of the Democratic Party, also stressed, "Our party's efforts are concentrated on overcoming the COVID-19 crisis," adding, "There is a need for proactive and preemptive responses. Regulatory innovation suitable for this must also be achieved." Minister Choi Ki-young of the Ministry of Science and ICT said, "We already have 150 contactless companies," and added, "The Ministry of Science and ICT will support the development of the contactless industry so that the private sector can maximize its capabilities." Chu Kwang-ho, Director of Economic Policy at the Korea Economic Research Institute, and others presented the current status of the contactless industry and policy improvement measures.
