On the 9th, the KLPGA Tour stated, "The world ranking points for this tournament will be applied retroactively once other tours resume their schedules," adding, "The world rankings will be updated and applied retroactively." Due to the global pandemic of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19), all major tour schedules worldwide have been suspended. The world rankings for both men and women have been frozen since mid-March. The U.S. Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) Tour is also experiencing disruptions due to the spread of COVID-19.
The tour is expected to resume no earlier than mid-July. The world rankings are also expected to change after July. The world ranking points for the KLPGA Championship have not been determined yet. However, last year's winner, Choi Hye-jin (21, Lotte), received 19 ranking points. This year's tournament is expected to have more ranking points as many higher-ranked players will participate compared to last year. There are three players ranked within the top 10 in the world rankings: Park Sung-hyun (27, 3rd), Kim Sei-young (27, 6th), and Lee Jeong-eun 6 (24, 10th).

The KLPGA Championship will open on the 14th at Lakewood Golf Club in Yangju, Gyeonggi Province. As it is the first regular tour event held since COVID-19, it is attracting great attention from the golf community. With a total prize money of 3 billion KRW and a winner's prize of 220 million KRW, it is the largest scale in KLPGA Tour history. A total of 150 players will participate, and the 'MDF (Made cut, Did not Finish) cut-off' rule will be adopted. To support players facing difficulties due to COVID-19, even the lowest-ranked player, 150th place, will receive a prize of 6.25 million KRW.
