Civic Group Reports Gominjeong Fan Club to Prosecutors for 'Illegal Election Campaigning'
[Asia Economy Reporter Shinwon Yoon] A civic group has filed a complaint with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office against the operator of the Facebook page 'Supporting Gominjeong,' which supports former Blue House spokesperson Gominjeong, who is running in the April 15 general election, on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.
The 'Citizens' Legal Support Group' stated on the 2nd, "The operator of this page used Facebook advertising services to appeal for support for former spokesperson Go, who is a candidate for the 21st National Assembly election, which constitutes illegal use of broadcasting and newspapers under the Public Official Election Act," adding, "Posting content with the intention that former spokesperson Go must be elected in the general election constitutes election campaigning for a specific candidate before the official election campaign period began."
They further pointed out, "After forming a fan club for former spokesperson Go and opening a Facebook page named 'Supporting Gominjeong,' advertising the fan club's posts also violates the Public Official Election Act's provisions on election campaign period violations and illegal election campaigning."
