Osan Mayor Lee Kwonjae is actively taking steps himself to pave the way for the 'Bundang Line Osan Extension Project', which is a core task of the 'All-Directional Transportation Innovation' initiative.
According to Osan City on April 17, Mayor Lee Kwonjae visited the Financial Performance Division of the Planning and Budget Office in Sejong City on the 16th, where he held a meeting with the Financial Investment Review Officer. He strongly requested proactive cooperation to ensure the Bundang Line Osan Extension Project is selected as a target project for the preliminary feasibility study (hereinafter referred to as the "pre-feasibility study").

It is being evaluated as a key route that will significantly improve the transportation network in the southern part of the Seoul metropolitan area.
After being included in the 4th National Railroad Network Expansion Plan in 2021, the project underwent a feasibility study by the National Railroad Authority in 2022 through ongoing consultations among Gyeonggi Province, and the cities of Osan, Yongin, and Hwaseong. In December 2024, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport applied for the project to be selected as a target for the pre-feasibility study to the Ministry of Planning and Budget (formerly the Ministry of Economy and Finance). After supplementing the project plan, a reapplication was made in January 2026, but it was not selected as a target project.
In his opening remarks, Mayor Lee Kwonjae said, "It is regrettable that the Osan Extension Project, despite being included in the 4th National Railroad Network Expansion Plan (2021-2030), was not selected as a project for the pre-feasibility study." He emphasized, "The expansion of transportation networks in the third-phase new towns in southern Gyeonggi Province is not only necessary for Osan but is also considered essential at the provincial and national levels."
During the meeting, an official from the Transport Policy Division explained that, at the time of the 4th National Railroad Network Expansion Plan, transportation demand did not reflect the designation of the Segyo 3 District (33,000 households) and the development of Hwaseong Geumgok District (13,000 households). The official stated, "If we analyze the current cost-benefit ratio (B/C) based on the present situation, we believe the project will demonstrate economic feasibility."
The official added, "During the past development of Segyo 1 and 2 Districts, there was a limitation in that sufficient metropolitan transportation infrastructure was not established. To fundamentally resolve transportation issues across all of Osan, including the Segyo 3 District, it is essential that the Bundang Line Osan Extension Project is selected as a target for the pre-feasibility study."
The Financial Investment Review Officer at the Planning and Budget Office also expressed agreement with the necessity of the Bundang Line Osan Extension Project, stating, "Let's work together to address the supplementary matters necessary to make this project a reality."
Meanwhile, Osan City is making multifaceted efforts to relaunch the Bundang Line Osan Extension Project.
To expedite the implementation of the Bundang Line Osan Extension Project, a citywide signature campaign is being conducted from March 17 to April 20, 2026. As of April 16, a total of 11,368 people have participated in the campaign.

The letter emphasized the increasing need for close cooperation among the three cities for the prompt relaunch of the project and proposed the formation of a working-level council.
Mayor Lee stated, "In connection with the designation of the Segyo 3 District, the city is also pursuing the long-term plan of extending the Bundang Line Osan Extension Project further to Segyo 2 and 3 Districts. Along with the Bundang Line Osan Extension, we will also ensure the smooth progress of other major metropolitan and urban railway projects, such as the extension of the GTX-C Line to Osan and the operation of KTX trains departing from Suwon and stopping at Osan, which are being promoted as key transportation policies of the city."
