"It's Not AI, But Those Who Use AI Better Who Will Replace You"... Jensen Huang's Advice at Commencement
Advice for the AI Era at Carnegie Mellon University Commencement
Emphasizing the Importance of 'Application Skills' in the Age of AI
"Optimism and Ambition Matter More Than Fear"
"The likelihood that artificial intelligence (AI) will replace you is low, but someone who can leverage AI better than you could replace you."
This was the advice given by Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, to university graduates entering the era of AI. He emphasized that even as employment uncertainty due to AI grows, it is more important to embrace optimism and a spirit of challenge rather than fear.

AI is not simply creating a new computing industry, but is opening a new industrial age."
CEO Huang noted that graduates are entering society at the beginning of the AI revolution and said, "There has never been a more exciting time to begin a life's work." He also drew on his own experience of starting his career at the onset of the PC revolution, emphasizing, "No generation has ever stepped into the world equipped with more powerful tools and greater opportunities than yours."
In particular, CEO Huang acknowledged concerns that AI could threaten jobs, but argued that it is important to distinguish between "work" and "purpose." For example, while AI can perform repetitive tasks such as analyzing radiographic images, it cannot replace the role of a radiologist in diagnosing and caring for patients.
He stated, "AI does not replace human purpose, but amplifies human capabilities," predicting that "the more images AI analyzes, the greater the demand for radiologists will become."
However, he also stressed that in the age of AI, how well one can utilize technology will determine individual competitiveness. In the past, software development was the domain of a select group of experts, but now, thanks to AI, even the owner of a small shop can build a website—showing that technological barriers are coming down.
Accordingly, CEO Huang described the AI revolution as the greatest platform shift following the PC, the internet, mobile, and the cloud, and urged that rather than being fearful of technological change, people should adopt an optimistic and proactive attitude. He said, "Historically, every major technological revolution has brought both opportunity and fear," and added, "When we embrace technology openly, responsibly, and with optimism, human potential expands far more than it contracts." He concluded, "Fear of the future is not the answer. The answer is to lead the future wisely, build it responsibly, and ensure that its benefits are shared as widely as possible."
During his speech, CEO Huang also shared his own journey as a first-generation immigrant who founded NVIDIA and grew through many failures. He said, "Every failure is a moment for learning, a moment for humility, a moment for building character," and added, "It is the resilience forged through adversity that gives you the strength to try again." He encouraged the graduates by saying, "Just as NVIDIA has been the work of my life, now it is your turn to realize your dreams."
