Gachon University Holds Anniversary Ceremony on May 8... President Gilyeo Lee: "A University Where AI Thrives"
On May 8, Gachon University held its 87th anniversary ceremony at the Gachon Hall, attended by President Gilyeo Lee, faculty members, students, and around 300 participants.
In her commemorative speech, President Gilyeo Lee stated, "Soon, human history will be divided into before and after AI," adding, "AI is not just a simple technology but a major transformation that will change the course of human civilization."
She went on to say, "The government's selection of Gachon University as one of the nation’s first seven AI-focused universities is the result of years of accumulated research and innovation. The challenges we have undertaken—from the establishment of the College of Software 24 years ago, to our selection as a software-focused university, the creation of the AI department, and the launch of the College of Semiconductor—have all contributed to today’s achievements."

Meanwhile, during the ceremony, 10 people including Professor Sangwoong Lee of the Department of Artificial Intelligence received the Gachon Academic Award in recognition of their outstanding achievements in the fields of scholarship, education, and industry-academia cooperation, as well as their contributions to the university’s development and nurturing of future scholars. Forty-eight people, including Professor Dongyeob Kim of the Department of Business Administration, received the Outstanding Educator Award. In addition, 20 people, including Professor Wonjun Lee, Distinguished Professor of the Department of Artificial Intelligence, were honored with the President’s Special Award. Fifty-eight faculty and staff, including Professor Youngseo Park of the Department of Food and Life Science, received the Long Service Award.
