Gyeonggi Province Begins Accepting "Opportunity Income" Applications for Artists and People with Disabilities... Up to 1.5 Million Won and 100,000 Won Monthly Support
Gyeonggi Province is beginning the application process to provide "Opportunity Income" to local artists and people with disabilities.
On May 7, Gyeonggi Province announced that it will begin accepting applications for the "Artists Opportunity Income" starting from the 11th of this month.
The Artists Opportunity Income is a Gyeonggi Province arts policy that supports artists' continued creative activities by compensating for the social value generated by artistic work.
Eligible applicants are artists residing in 28 cities and counties within Gyeonggi Province, excluding three local governments—Seongnam, Yongin, and Goyang—that are not participating in the program. Specifically, applicants must be artists aged 19 or older whose recognized individual income is at or below 120% of the median income and who possess a valid certificate of artistic activity.
Applications can be submitted online via Gyeonggi Civil Service 24 (gg24.gg.go.kr) or in person at the local city, county, town, or township office corresponding to the applicant's registered address from May 11 to June 19.
Gyeonggi Province will conduct income assessments for applicants, check for duplicate benefits with the Artists Activity Preparation Fund and the K-ART Youth Creator Support Program, and then provide 1.5 million won in opportunity income in two installments starting in July. The amount and timing of payments may vary depending on the number of selected recipients.
Starting in June, Gyeonggi Province will also launch the "Artists Opportunity Income Expansion Project" to support artists who have received opportunity income, enabling them to broaden their opportunities to participate in real-world performances, exhibitions, and events.
Gyeonggi Province is also recruiting 2,000 participants for the "Opportunity Income for People with Disabilities" program, with applications open until May 15.
The Opportunity Income for People with Disabilities is a flagship welfare policy of Gyeonggi Province that provides a monthly payment of 100,000 won when participants verify value-creating activities—such as engaging in healthy activities for at least one hour twice a week using a smartwatch. The program goes beyond simple cash support, aiming to promote health management and social participation, thereby fostering independence and improving the quality of life for people with disabilities.
Eligible applicants are people with a "severe level of disability" who are registered residents of Gyeonggi Province, aged between 13 and 64, with a household income at or below 120% of the median. All family members with disabilities in the same household may apply.
Selected participants must wear a smartwatch and verify their activities at least twice a week. They will receive 100,000 won per month by completing tasks such as registering changes in health status, taking health-related content courses, and verifying social participation activities at least once a month. Each participant can receive up to 1.2 million won per year (up to 30 months).
Applications can be submitted online (Gyeonggi Civil Service 24) or by visiting the community service center corresponding to the applicant's registered address. For more information, please contact the Opportunity Income for People with Disabilities Hotline at 1644-2122.
