People Power Party Push for Independent Campaign Committees... Pro-Leadership Faction Warns "Could Hand Victory to the Opposition"
Chogwanghan Stresses the Need for Responsibility and Unity
With the 9th nationwide local elections set for June 3, as each People Power Party candidate for metropolitan governor is discussing forming independent regional election committees, the pro-leadership faction has pushed back, arguing that “this could end up handing a winning strategy to the opposition in an unfortunate turn of events.”
Chogwanghan, a Supreme Council member of the People Power Party, stated at the Supreme Council meeting that morning, “Despite experiencing the painful strategic failure of impeachment, the party is repeating the same mistakes. Is distancing oneself from the party leadership truly the most certain and best breakthrough?” Chogwanghan is known to be one of the leadership figures close to Chairman Jang Donghyeok.
Targeting the anti-leadership faction, Chogwanghan said, “Who bears the decisive responsibility for the crushing defeat in the 2024 National Assembly elections, the subsequent 12·3 martial law and impeachment, and the loss in the presidential election? Who has been repeatedly shaking and destabilizing the party since last year’s party convention? They are the fundamental cause of our party’s repeated strategic failures.”
He continued, “From the perspective of candidates facing tough elections, the party’s situation may seem as twisted as a curved horn. However, if those of us working for the party’s victory start drawing lines and waving different flags, it could shake the very foundation that supports us all—the party itself.”

He added, “What the people and party members truly want to see is unwavering responsibility and unity even in the face of crisis,” and stated, “Especially when the party is in difficulty, we must show family members joining hands and overcoming the waves together. Only then can we regain the public’s trust.”
