People Power Party Push for Independent Campaign Committees... Pro-Leadership Faction Warns "Could Hand Victory to the Opposition"

Chogwanghan Stresses the Need for Responsibility and Unity

As the 9th nationwide local elections approach on June 3, each People Power Party candidate for metropolitan mayor has brought up forming independent regional campaign committees. Meanwhile, those aligned with the party leadership have countered, arguing, "This could, in fact, create a regrettable situation where we hand our opponents the wisdom to win."

People Power Party Supreme Council member Cho Gwanghan stated at the Supreme Council meeting that morning, "Despite having endured the painful strategic failure of impeachment, the party continues to repeat the same mistakes. Is distancing oneself from the party leadership truly the most certain and best way forward?" Cho is known as a close ally of party leader Jang Donghyuk.

Supreme Council member Cho, targeting the pro-anti-leadership faction, said, "Who bears the ultimate responsibility for the devastating defeat in the 2024 parliamentary elections, the subsequent 12·3 Martial Law and impeachment, and the presidential election loss? Who has repeatedly shaken and disrupted the party without pause since last year's national convention? They are the fundamental cause of our party's repeated strategic failures."

He continued, "From the perspective of candidates facing tough elections, the party situation may seem as twisted as a curved horn. However, if those of us striving for victory each raise different banners and draw lines between ourselves, it could end up shaking the very foundation of the party we all stand on."

He added, "The image that the public and party members truly want to see is steadfast responsibility and unity, unwavering even in times of crisis. Only when the party faces difficulties and its members join hands and overcome challenges together can we regain the public's trust," he said.
