The event was attended by more than 200 participants, including representatives from the Siheung Fire Station, the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency Gyeonggi Western Branch, and tenant companies of the Shihwa National Industrial Complex.
This roundtable was organized to analyze the causes of the large-scale fire at a metal processing plant in Daejeon and to review the fire prevention and safety management conditions of the Shihwa National Industrial Complex, where similar industries are densely clustered.
Participants shared the key causes identified in the Daejeon fire, including ▲neglect in managing dust collectors, ▲illegal unauthorized extensions and structural changes, and ▲damage to evacuation and fire protection facilities. In particular, given the concentration of automotive parts and metal processing industries in the complex, there was a consensus on the need for effective, site-oriented preventive measures and stronger self-directed safety management.
Taking this roundtable as an opportunity, the city will support the establishment of a "self-directed safety inspection system" that enables businesses to identify and address risks independently. In addition, the city will cooperate with relevant agencies to enhance regular inspections and safety training.

Yang Soonpil, Director of the Environmental Bureau, stated, "The Daejeon fire tragedy reminded the entire nation of the severe consequences of safety complacency. We will actively support the establishment of a 'self-directed safety inspection system' so that similar businesses in the Shihwa Industrial Complex can diagnose and address risk factors themselves. At the same time, through close cooperation with the fire department, the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency, and other related agencies, we will strive to make Siheung a safe city where not a single worker is lost to industrial accidents."
