Amazon to Invest Up to $25 Billion More in Anthropic
Amazon announced on April 20 (local time) that it will invest up to an additional $25 billion (approximately KRW 36.8 trillion) in the artificial intelligence (AI) startup Anthropic.
Amazon is already one of Anthropic’s major investors, having previously invested $8 billion. This time, Amazon will invest $5 billion, and plans to inject up to an additional $20 billion in the future. According to Amazon, the additional $20 billion investment depends on whether certain commercial milestones are achieved.
As a result of this investment, Anthropic has agreed to spend more than $100 billion over the next 10 years on Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud technologies and the custom AI chip Trainium. Anthropic will receive up to 5GW (gigawatts) of computing power from Amazon, with about one-fifth of this capacity scheduled to be deployed within this year.
According to Bloomberg, through this partnership, Amazon has secured access to leading AI models for its cloud business and gained a major customer for its proprietary AI chips. At the same time, Anthropic is now able to access Amazon’s vast base of enterprise customers. According to both companies, more than 100,000 customers are operating Claude models on AWS.

This agreement is part of Anthropic’s efforts to secure the massive computing power needed to develop the next generation of Claude. Recently, Anthropic announced that it had signed a three-way partnership with Broadcom and Google to secure approximately 3.5GW of AI computing capacity starting in 2027, accelerating its infrastructure expansion.
