Yeongcheon City announced on the 17th that it had been selected as the “top” institution in the city category in the “2026 Regulatory Reform Performance Evaluation for Cities and Counties” hosted by North Gyeongsang Province.

This evaluation comprehensively reviewed the 2025 regulatory reform performance, including proposals for improvements to central government laws and revisions to local regulations. Yeongcheon City improved its rating from “Excellent” last year to “Top” this year.

Yeongcheon City collected on-site feedback from citizens and businesses by running its own regulatory improvement idea contest and operating a “Mobile Local Regulation Reporting Center.”

Based on these efforts, the city identified and proposed a total of 28 regulatory improvement tasks closely related to daily life. Of these, two proposals—including “exemption from the obligation to maintain operational records at workplaces equipped with Internet of Things (IoT) measurement devices”—were accepted.

Additionally, by operating a Regulatory Innovation Task Force and holding meetings to review regulations affecting livelihoods and so-called “shadow” regulations, the city strengthened interdepartmental collaboration. It also revised 13 local regulations in areas closely related to citizens’ daily lives, including: relaxing the criteria for households with multiple children (from three or more children to two or more), easing requirements for special guarantees for small business owners (from within 12 months of startup to within 24 months, and removing the credit score requirement), and improving the installation standards for acceleration/deceleration lanes in measurement sections (from main road standards to newly established relaxed standards).

Vice Mayor Choi Jeongae stated, “This result is the outcome of our efforts to promote regulatory improvement based on on-site feedback,” adding, “We will continue to identify and revise regulations that inconvenience daily life and business activities.”
