At a briefing on military operations against Iran held at the Department of Defense building near Washington D.C. on April 16 (local time), Secretary Hegseas stated, "If Iran makes the wrong choice and rejects the agreement, the U.S. military is in the highest state of readiness to resume combat operations." He added, "We hope that the new Iranian regime will make a wise decision."
He also delivered a stern warning to Iran, saying, "We are watching you," and emphasized, "There is a significant gap in the capabilities of our two militaries. This is not a fair fight."
Additionally, Secretary Hegseas explained that the U.S. military has completed its reorganization based on improved intelligence capabilities, and is prepared to launch attacks targeting Iran's energy facilities, including power plants. He stressed that immediate military action would be possible if ordered by President Donald Trump.
He also strongly criticized Iran's claim to control the Strait of Hormuz. He said, "Threatening legitimate commercial vessels operating in international waters with missile and drone attacks means you control nothing," adding, "This is not control, but rather an act of piracy and terrorism."
