National Athletes Join Energy Conservation Efforts... "Guidelines for Improving Living Culture at the Athletes' Village" Established
The Korea Sports Council Athletes' Committee announced on April 16 that it had delivered the "Guidelines for Improving the Living Culture at the National Athletes' Village" to the National Athletes' Village, with the aim of promoting energy conservation and fostering a sense of community among athletes.
The guidelines were established in response to the growing importance of resource security due to the Middle East energy crisis, the need to reduce electricity consumption and operate the Athletes' Village more efficiently, and the necessity to improve public order and the use of shared facilities. Committee members, including Chairman Kim Kookyoung, agreed that it is essential to establish a living culture based on voluntary participation and increased awareness, grounded in the sense of responsibility and mission they hold as national athletes. They explained that this consensus led to the formulation of the guidelines.

For energy conservation and efficient operation, the guidelines recommend turning off lights in dormitories and training facilities, maintaining appropriate temperatures for heating and cooling systems, turning off unused electronic devices, reducing food waste and single-use products, and encouraging the use of shared transportation.
In the area of improving public order and community culture, the guidelines include establishing parking order and safe driving, making it a habit to tidy up after using shared facilities, protecting and using facilities responsibly, and being considerate of others and observing etiquette.
The Athletes' Committee stated that if the guidelines are not followed and problems persist, they will discuss and consider the introduction of stricter rules.
Chairman Kim Kookyoung said, "These guidelines were developed to help athletes focus on their training in a more comfortable environment and to strengthen their sense of responsibility as national representatives. We hope that the culture of energy conservation and community spirit will spread naturally."
