Andong Engraves Its World Heritage on Cable TV
Winner of the Excellence Local Government Award at the Broadcasting Awards
Heritage Promotion Proves Power of City Branding
Andong City has achieved significant results on the national stage by skillfully presenting the region's World Heritage sites through video content. This award is particularly noteworthy because it demonstrates how strategic promotion, which goes beyond mere preservation and expands engagement with the public, has become a factor in strengthening the city's competitiveness.
Andong City announced that it received the Excellence Local Government Award at the "2026 Cable TV Broadcasting Awards" ceremony held on April 15 at Hotel Naru Seoul M Gallery in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
Cable TV Broadcast Awards Excellence Local Government Award for Hahoe Byeolsin Gut Talnori and World Heritage Promotion Achievements
View original imageThe Cable TV Broadcasting Awards, hosted by the Korea Cable Television & Telecommunications Association, is the only integrated awards event for Korea's pay-TV industry, encompassing both SOs (System Operators, or comprehensive cable TV operators) and PPs (Program Providers, or channel operators). Andong City was honored with the award for effectively communicating the historical and cultural value of its World Heritage sites and raising public awareness through the "Promotion of Andong's World Heritage" project carried out in 2025.
The content that laid the foundation for the award consisted of two promotional videos produced and aired by LG HelloVision Yeongnam Broadcasting. Each video is approximately 30 minutes long, with Part 1 titled "Silent Resonance: The World Heritage of Andong" and Part 2 titled "Hahoe Byeolsin Gut Talnori." The videos present a balanced portrayal of Andong's serene traditional beauty and the dynamic value of its intangible heritage.
In particular, Part 1 calmly and intensively highlights the depth of time and spiritual resonance contained in Andong's World Heritage, while Part 2 vividly conveys the communal significance and authenticity of Hahoe Byeolsin Gut Talnori, showcasing the multidimensional appeal of local culture. The content was praised for persuasively expressing Andong's cultural identity through the language of video, going beyond simple tourism promotion.
The content was broadcast a total of five times, including both the original airing and reruns. Through repeated exposure, viewers were able to become more familiar with Andong's cultural heritage, and the initiative is evaluated as having laid the groundwork for the region's cultural value to be continuously promoted rather than remaining a one-time event.
Andong City plans to further increase accessibility by uploading these videos to its official YouTube channel, "Moduda Andong," and actively utilize them as signature digital content for promoting Andong's World Heritage. By expanding its promotional channels beyond broadcasting to online platforms, the city aims to enhance both the popularity and reach of its local cultural heritage.
An Andong City official stated, "This award recognizes our achievement in raising broad awareness of the historical and cultural value of Andong's World Heritage," adding, "We will continue to actively promote Andong's cultural heritage both domestically and internationally through a variety of content."
