Social workers in Gwangju have brought the vivid voices of the field directly to the National Assembly. View original imageThis meeting was organized to listen to the real voices from the social welfare field and identify practical policy issues. The event was attended by Assemblywoman Yong Hyein, officials from the Basic Income Party’s Gwangju and Jeonnam local branches, as well as social workers active in various sectors including child, disability, and elderly welfare.
During the “Telling Field Stories, Asking About Change” section, participants candidly shared the difficulties and institutional limitations they face in their respective areas of practice. There was widespread agreement on the urgent need for practical policy support and legal improvements, so that social workers can focus on their work in a more stable and respected environment.
In the following session, “Happy Talk Over Ramen,” participants broke away from formalities and shared a bowl of ramen together, fostering a relaxed atmosphere where they could freely discuss the challenges of the field and directions for future change.
