Min Hyung-bae, the Democratic Party of Korea’s candidate for the integrated special mayoral position for Jeonnam and Gwangju, announced, "I will humbly accept the mandate of the citizens and complete a citizen-sovereign government."
After being confirmed as the final candidate in the Democratic Party of Korea’s integrated special mayoral primary for Jeonnam and Gwangju on April 14, Min released a statement saying, "This result is a stern message from the sovereign people to awaken the stagnant Jeonnam and Gwangju and to bring real change to citizens’ lives." He emphasized, "I will never forget that mandate, not even for a moment."

He also identified local economic recovery and the job market as key priorities.
Min said, "I will revive the stagnant regional industries and create quality jobs so that young people will not leave the city. I will lay a solid foundation for Jeonnam and Gwangju to leap forward once again."
He sent a message of unity to his primary rivals, including Kim Young-rok, Kang Gi-jung, Shin Jung-hoon, Joo Cheol-hyeon, and Jung Joon-ho.
Min said, "I am deeply grateful to all the candidates who competed alongside me. The competition is over, but the solidarity and cooperation for the future of Jeonnam and Gwangju begin now."
He added, "Every candidate is a valuable asset to Jeonnam and Gwangju. By integrating more broadly and uniting more deeply, we will jointly lead the great leap forward for Jeonnam and Gwangju."
