"My Hero Dad, See You in Heaven"... Firefighters' Funeral Overwhelmed with Tears
Funeral Ceremony for the Late Park Seungwon and Noh Taeyoung, Fallen Heroes of the Wando Fire
Final Farewells from Families Turn Ceremony into a Sea of Tears
"I keep remembering the last image of my dad giving me a fist bump when I came back from the library. My dad is my hero and truly an amazing man. Thank you for remaining the perfect and wonderful dad I know, right up to the very end."
The fire, relentless and merciless, ultimately took the heroes of Jeollanam-do from their families. On April 14, at the Wando Agricultural and Fisheries Culture and Sports Center, the funeral ceremony for the late Fire Captain Park Seungwon and the late Firefighter Noh Taeyoung was held with full honors by Jeollanam-do Province. As the final letters and eulogies from bereaved families and colleagues echoed through the hall, the room quickly filled with overwhelming grief and wailing.

The father, who had warmly exchanged a fist bump with his son returning from the library the night before his shift, never came back home.
The son, holding back tears, said, "I am still not ready, and no matter how much I think about it, it just feels like a lie." Yet, he continued calmly, "Let’s meet again in heaven, our family. You were the best dad. I love you," bidding a solemn farewell and moving everyone present.

He said, "In the ten years since I became an adult, my biggest regret is that I never had a drink alone with my brother," adding, "If we meet again someday, I’d like to share a drink together slowly in a cool place where there are no flames. I hope you are no longer in pain and find happiness there," expressing his deep sorrow.
The eulogies from fellow firefighters, who had braved life-and-death fire scenes together, also weighed heavily on the hearts of all attendees.
One colleague who had shared many days and nights with Captain Park remembered him, saying, "Whenever the manual alarm bell rang, he would be the first to grab his gear and, even in moments that anyone else would fear, he was always the first to move toward the flames."

That sense of guilt remains in my heart," and added, "We will now take on the position you tried to protect and safeguard the lives of the people of Jeollanam-do. Seungwon, you did so much. Thank you," offering his final words of farewell.
The eulogy from a senior officer to the young firefighter Noh Taeyoung, who was about to get married, turned the hall into a sea of tears. He had been a reliable younger brother, preparing for certifications together, carrying heavy equipment side by side, and supporting each other.
The colleague who delivered the eulogy sobbed, saying, "I keep thinking of your shy smile as you talked about the best honeymoon destinations and wondered how you would live a happy life together after getting married."

We who remain will carry on the mission of being a firefighter that you loved so much."
