Boryeong City to Install Solar Roofs at Public Parking Lots Over 1,000㎡
Attracting 16 Billion Won in Private Investment Through Collaboration with Korea Midland Power
Boryeong City in South Chungcheong Province is partnering with Korea Midland Power to produce renewable energy using public parking lots.
On April 13, Boryeong City and Korea Midland Power signed a business agreement for the joint development of a mandatory solar panel installation project at public parking lots.
Accordingly, the city will install solar panel roofs at public parking lots larger than 1,000 square meters, attracting 16 billion won in private investment.
The city plans to use the generated electricity for its own consumption, and sell any surplus power to generate revenue.
This agreement follows the revision of the ‘Act on the Promotion of the Development, Use, and Diffusion of New and Renewable Energy’ in May last year and the proclamation of the enforcement decree of the same law in November, which made it mandatory to install solar facilities at public parking lots above a certain size.
Under the agreement, the city will provide land and administrative support, while Korea Midland Power will be responsible for technical support, including the construction, operation, and management of solar facilities.
Lee Yonghee, head of the city's energy department, stated, “We expect the construction of renewable energy facilities to create jobs for local companies, boost consumption, and help attract RE100 companies.”
In particular, the city plans to complete the first phase of the project and conduct a trial run of the power generation facilities by November, and then proceed with the second phase.
