This announcement was based on the results of the party member electoral college vote and the general public opinion poll conducted on the 12th and 13th, each accounting for 50% of the final result.
Previously, the nomination committee held a first preliminary primary using the so-called 'Korean Series' method to narrow down the candidates for Gyeongbuk Governor. Kim Jae-won, Supreme Council member, was chosen as the preliminary candidate to compete against the incumbent governor, leading to a two-way race with Governor Lee. Having been selected as the final candidate, Governor Lee will now run for a third term. He will face Oh Joong-gi, former Senior Administrative Officer at the Blue House, who is running as the Democratic Party of Korea's candidate for Gyeongbuk Governor.

Meanwhile, for the mayoral race in Daegu, the process has shifted to the preliminary primary phase after the second debate concluded. On the 17th, two preliminary candidates will be selected. Although Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Joo Ho-young and former Korea Communications Commission Chairperson Lee Jin-sook are protesting against the nomination committee's cutoff (exclusion from nomination), the committee maintains that "there will be no additional primary procedures." Former Chairperson Lee, who has been asked by People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyuk to run in the by-election, is scheduled to hold a press conference at the People Power Party's Daegu City branch this afternoon.
