"In Front of His Young Son... 'They Deserve to Die' Heo Jiwoong Expresses Anger Over the Death of Director Kim Changmin"
"They beat a father to death in front of his young son"
"Why is any investigation or trial needed here?"
Writer and broadcaster Heo Jiwoong has expressed strong anger over the death of the late director Kim Changmin, who died as a result of a group assault.
On April 11, Heo Jiwoong pointed out the brutality of the incident in a post on his social networking service (SNS), stating, "They beat a father to death in front of his young son, and the entire process was captured on CCTV." He further criticized, "The perpetrators did not apologize and instead released an album. As the controversy grew, they appeared on a 'rekka' YouTube channel and apologized there, but never apologized to the bereaved family."
"Dismiss police responsible for poor investigation...Tax audit for 'rekka' YouTuber"
Heo Jiwoong also expressed deep distrust regarding the investigation and judicial proceedings. He said, "I don't understand why any investigation or trial is needed here," and used strong language, saying, "The perpetrators deserve to die." He continued, "Those responsible for the initial poor investigation should be dismissed and excluded from the community at all levels. The problematic 'rekka' YouTuber should be subjected to a tax audit and be whipped by the victim's family in front of their own child." He raised his voice, adding, "Look at how things are going. Is this normal?"
Director Kim was attacked in a group assault on October 20 last year at a 24-hour restaurant in Guri, Gyeonggi Province while dining with his developmentally disabled son. About an hour later, he was transported to the hospital, where he was declared brain-dead. He later saved the lives of four people through organ donation before passing away.
Immediately after the incident, perpetrator A released a song with lyrics such as "The pure me is gone" and "I've become a thug," which sparked public outrage. As criticism mounted, A appeared on a YouTube channel and bowed his head, saying "I'm sorry," but it was reported that he never offered a direct apology to the bereaved family.

There has also been controversy over the inadequacy of the investigation. It became known that the police initially treated the case as a mutual assault and that the arrest warrant was denied, which drew criticism. Currently, the prosecution has formed a dedicated investigation team to conduct a supplementary investigation, and the police are also conducting an internal audit.
