This figure has surpassed the super-aged society threshold in just five years, rising from 15.4% in 2021. With the opening of this welfare center, the district aims to respond to the growing welfare needs driven by an aging population, while also expanding opportunities for seniors’ social participation and leisure activities.
The establishment of the welfare center was made possible by a donation of welfare facilities from E-Land Group, following the company’s move to bring its research and development (R&D) center into the Magok General Industrial Complex. Gangseo-gu signed an agreement with the E-Land Consortium in August 2024 and began construction in November of the same year. Thanks to E-Land Group's public donation and construction by E-Land Construction, approximately 9.2 billion won in building costs were saved. A total of 8.05 billion won was invested in land acquisition and interior construction.
The welfare center has a total floor area of 2,732 square meters, consisting of one basement level and four above-ground floors. It features a cafeteria, a health promotion room, a table tennis room, and a 'Smart Zone' equipped with advanced devices such as VR equipment and an AI Go robot. This space is designed to help bridge the digital divide for seniors who are not familiar with digital devices. After opening, the center will also offer a range of customized programs year-round, including lifelong learning, hobbies and leisure, health promotion, and social participation activities.
