Hallym University Medical Center Selected for 21 Projects in First Round of Basic Research Program by Ministry of Science and ICT
Selected for Various Categories Including Key, Young, and Leap Research
Secured Approximately KRW 11 Billion in Research Funding
Hallym University Medical Center announced on April 8 that a total of 21 research projects have been selected for the first round of new projects in the 2026 Basic Research Program, which is supervised by the Ministry of Science and ICT and supported by the National Research Foundation of Korea.

View original imageFor this selection, Hallym University Medical Center achieved outstanding results in various categories, including Key Research (Type A, B, and C), Young Researcher (Type A and B), and Key Research (Leap Type). The selected projects cover future medical technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI)-based precision medicine, digital healthcare, organoids, and multi-omics.
In the Key Research category, a total of nine projects were chosen, including one Type C, four Type B, three Type A, and one Leap Type project. The selected projects include advanced convergence research across a variety of fields, including infectious diseases, AI-based medicine, metabolic diseases, liver cancer, and neurological disorders, utilizing technologies such as multi-omics, AI, and microbe-based therapies.
In the Young Researcher category, a total of 11 projects were selected, consisting of four Type B and seven Type A projects. Many of these projects have strong clinical application potential, covering topics such as personalized antibiotic therapy, integrated prediction of mental and physical illnesses, GLP-1-based obesity treatment response, early cancer diagnosis, and imaging AI.
Within the Key Research field, a project to develop rapid diagnosis and prognosis prediction technology for pancreatic cancer by combining 3D holotomography and AI was also selected.
With the selection of these research projects, Hallym University Medical Center will receive approximately KRW 11 billion in research funding, allowing the institution to conduct full-cycle basic research from elucidating disease mechanisms to diagnosis and the development of treatment technologies.
