Dongjak District Opens "Elderly-Only Gym" in Sadang-dong... Daily Fee 500 Won
Sadang Area's Senior Population Reaches 21.9%
Fall Prevention Programs Offered
Dongjak District in Seoul (District Mayor Park Ilha) has opened the "Elderly-Only Gym Sadang Branch" to help prevent muscle loss among seniors and to support healthy aging.
The Sadang Branch is the second elderly-only gym in the district, following the Sanggdo Branch (42, Jangseungbaegi-ro 10-gil), which opened in July last year. The Sadang area has a population aged 65 and older accounting for 21.9%—1.7 percentage points higher than the overall average for Dongjak District—demonstrating a high demand for tailored health facilities. The gym was established after Sadang Saemaeul Credit Union provided its former office building (7, Sadang-ro 16ga-gil) as a free lease.
The first floor houses a strength training gym, equipped with treadmills, leg extension machines, Smith machines, and other exercise equipment. A physical activity instructor is always present to guide seniors on safe exercise methods. Residents of Dongjak District aged 65 or older can use the gym for 500 won per day or 10,000 won per month. The second floor is a specialized space for fall prevention, where programs to improve flexibility and balance will be offered free of charge.
The facility is open on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Seniors are required to bring identification, workout clothes, and indoor shoes when visiting.
