Pyeongtaek City Establishes and Operates Wildfire Disaster Safety Headquarters as National Crisis Alert Raised to "Caution"
Pyeongtaek City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Jung Jang-seon), announced on March 30 that it has established and begun operating the Wildfire Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters as of March 27, in response to the recent increase in wildfire risks due to dry weather conditions and strong winds, as well as the upgrade of the national wildfire disaster crisis alert to the "Caution" level on March 26. This is a proactive measure to ensure citizen safety.
This initiative aims to strengthen preventive activities and initial response capabilities amid heightened wildfire risks, and to reinforce cooperation systems among relevant agencies to block the spread of small fires into large-scale wildfires in advance.
Accordingly, the city plans to operate a systematic response system led by the Wildfire Disaster Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, which will expand patrols and intensify preventive activities in areas adjacent to forests. In the event of a wildfire, the city will implement a comprehensive response covering all stages, from initial containment and resident protection to post-incident recovery.
In particular, monitoring will be intensified at the entrances of major hiking trails and surrounding forest areas, with concentrated deployment of wildfire prevention personnel to crack down on and provide guidance regarding illegal burning activities. In addition, the city will continue to maintain close collaboration with neighboring municipalities and relevant organizations to ensure a swift response should a wildfire occur.

A Pyeongtaek City official stated, "Spring is a season when even a small spark can lead to a large wildfire due to dry weather and strong winds. We urge everyone to strictly comply with basic wildfire prevention rules, such as refraining from burning in areas adjacent to forests and not carrying flammable materials when entering forested areas."
