Jinju City Seeks to Secure Future Growth Engines Through Second Relocation of Public Institutions
Implementing Mid- to Long-Term Strategies
Including Task Force Operations and Residential Complex Development
Jinju City in South Gyeongsang Province is taking systematic measures in preparation for the government's second relocation of public institutions, checking available sites and assessing living conditions for potential resettlement.
On March 24, Park Ildong, Deputy Mayor of Jinju City, together with Gyeongsangnam-do Province officials, conducted a survey of available sites and buildings, focusing on the innovation city area. To proactively address various scenarios that may arise when the government's second relocation plan is announced, the city plans to pre-list buildings and land that can be used immediately and utilize them in advance.

View original imageIn addition, Jinju City plans to develop the Munsan-eup public housing district by 2032 to prepare for the second relocation. The city will also strive to ensure that the original downtown area is designated as an eligible relocation zone in accordance with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's policy.
The newly established Public Institution Relocation Task Force is reviewing ways to improve living conditions. In addition to the relocation and housing support previously provided to staff of the first relocated public institutions and the Aerospace Administration, the city is preparing an enhanced improvement plan that includes a comprehensive package of support measures.
If the construction of the integrated cultural library is completed around August 2026 and the establishment of Daegok High School is finalized in 2028, further improvements in living conditions in the fields of culture, sports, and education are expected.
A member of the joint inspection team stated, "The second relocation of public institutions is a key task for securing future growth engines and achieving balanced regional development," adding, "Based on the various cases accumulated through the first relocation, we plan to thoroughly prepare for the second relocation of public institutions as well."

Jinju Innovation City in South Gyeongsang Province is regarded as a successful case of the first relocation of public institutions, being ranked second in residential environment satisfaction in a 2024 survey by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, achieving a population growth rate of 343% (from 9,900 to 34,000 residents), ranking first in total local tax revenue among innovation cities from 2015 to 2024 (KRW 51.5 billion in 2024), and hiring 1,065 talented individuals.
