Gwangju Urban Corporation will sequentially supply public rental housing by type from March to May, targeting low-income residents and young people without homes. The corporation also released a "Public Rental Housing Relay Supply" timeline, allowing applicants to easily view recruitment schedules and eligibility criteria for each housing category, including Permanent Rental, Purchased Rental, Happy Housing, and National Rental.
According to Gwangju Urban Corporation on March 19, this supply initiative is focused on providing timely information about suitable housing options based on citizens’ income levels and circumstances, thereby expanding opportunities to apply.
In March, recruitment for "Permanent Rental Housing" will take place. For the "Usan Bit Yeoulchae Type 12" in Gwangsan-gu, which previously failed to fill its waiting list, Gwangju Urban Corporation will directly handle recruitment, easing the income requirement from 50% to 150% or less of the previous year’s average monthly income of urban workers. Move-in is expected within about six months of application. The regular recruitment for existing permanent rental units, which are intended for socially vulnerable groups, will also proceed via the Administrative Welfare Center in March. Those who meet the requirements can reside for up to 50 years under conditions amounting to about 30% of market rent.
In April, recruitment for "Purchased Rental Housing" and "Happy Housing" will follow. Purchased Rental Housing enables low-income residents in urban centers to remain in their current living areas by purchasing existing homes and offering them at about 30% of the market rent. Those who meet the income requirement of 50% or less are eligible to stay for up to 20 years. Emergency housing candidates, such as those living in cubicles, gosiwons, or vinyl greenhouses, can immediately move in upon selection by the district mayor. Happy Housing is targeted at young adults, newlyweds, and senior citizens, and applications are accepted at the management offices of Gwangju Station and Seorim Village complexes.
In May, applications for "National Rental Housing" will be accepted through Gwangju Urban Corporation. Households with an average monthly income of 70% or less are eligible. Those who meet the requirements may reside for up to 30 years in units such as Type 66 (approximately 66 square meters) in Sinchang District and Type 79 (approximately 79 square meters) in Hanam District.
