12 Years of Support Strengthens Competitiveness in Snow Sports
Lotte Group, in collaboration with the Korea Ski & Snowboard Association, will hold a ceremony on March 19 at SIGNIEL Seoul to encourage the national team athletes. This event is organized to celebrate the achievements of the athletes and coaching staff who delivered record-breaking performances at the 2026 Milan Cortina d'Ampezzo Winter Olympics.
The event will be attended by key figures, including Shin Dong-bin, Chairman of Lotte Group; Choi Hwi-young, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Kim Kyoheung, Chairman of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, along with major committee members from both ruling and opposition parties; Yoo Seung-min, President of the Korea Sports Council; and Choi Hong-hoon, President of the Korea Ski & Snowboard Association. Approximately 130 people, including the medalist athletes such as Choi Gaon, Kim Sangkyum, and Yoo Seungeun, as well as other team members and officials, will also be present.
The association will award a total of 860 million won in bonuses and commemorative gifts to the athletes and coaches who achieved outstanding results. Choi Gaon, who won the gold medal, will receive 300 million won, while Kim Sangkyum and Yoo Seungeun, who secured silver and bronze medals respectively, will be awarded 200 million won and 100 million won each. In addition, separate rewards will be presented to other top-performing athletes and coaching staff.
The event will feature a video showcasing the 12 years of support provided jointly by Lotte and the association, and also offer an opportunity for athletes to share their training processes and competition experiences firsthand.
At this Olympics, the national team achieved a meaningful milestone by securing a total of three medals, including the first-ever gold medal in a snow event for Korea. Industry observers credit not only the athletes' efforts but also Lotte Group's continuous support since 2014 as the foundation for these achievements.
In fact, Lotte Group has provided over 30 billion won in support since 2014 to foster the development of skiing and snowboarding disciplines. Including its support for the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, the cumulative amount has reached 80 billion won.
Shin Dong-bin, Chairman of Lotte Group, served as president of the association from 2014 to 2018, during which he established a systematic framework for identifying promising talent and nurturing national representatives. In recognition of his contributions, Chairman Shin was presented with a plaque of appreciation by the Korea Sports Council this past January.
