Gijang-gun in Busan has launched a support program to help elderly residents who experience difficulties in daily life due to hearing loss or limited mobility by providing financial assistance for purchasing medical assistive devices.
On March 6, Gijang-gun announced that it will provide support for the purchase costs of hearing aids and adult walkers for seniors who have difficulty communicating or moving around due to hearing loss or mobility challenges.
This program was established to alleviate the inconvenience experienced by elderly individuals who need hearing aids or walkers but have been unable to obtain appropriate assistive devices due to financial burdens.
In 2023, the county council introduced the relevant support ordinance for the first time in Busan through a bill proposal, and the project has been in operation since 2024. This year, the county has secured a budget of approximately 123 million won, fully funded by county finances, to continue the support.
Eligible recipients are elderly residents aged 65 or older who have maintained their resident registration in Gijang-gun for at least one year as of March 3, 2026. However, those who have already received support for a hearing aid or adult walker through legal provisions or other support programs are excluded from eligibility.
The county plans to select 100 recipients for hearing aids and 20 for adult walkers. For hearing aids, up to 1,179,000 won per person will be provided, and for adult walkers, up to 250,000 won per person, covering the actual purchase costs within these limits.
The application period runs until April 10. Seniors wishing to apply should visit the Welfare Team of the township or town Administrative Welfare Center corresponding to their address. For further details, inquiries can be made to the Welfare Team at the township or town Administrative Welfare Center, or to the Senior Welfare Team at the Welfare Division for Seniors and Persons with Disabilities in Gijang-gun.
