On March 4, Hampyeong County announced that Jeonnam Province, Hampyeong County, and Kumho Tire visited the planned site for the Kumho Tire Hampyeong plant within the Hampyeong Bitgreen National Industrial Complex to check the status of the investment project and listen to the company's challenges.
Approximately ten officials attended the on-site visit, including Kang Wiwon, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Jeonnam Province, Lee Sangik, Mayor of Hampyeong County, and Lim Wanju, Head of Corporate Planning Division (Executive Vice President) at Kumho Tire.
Since December 2025, Kumho Tire has been investing a total of 660.9 billion won to build an eco-friendly smart tire production plant on a 495,000-square-meter site within the Bitgreen National Industrial Complex in Oechi-ri, Wolya-myeon, Hampyeong County, with the goal of completing construction by March 2028.
Hampyeong County expects this investment to serve as an opportunity to expand the local production base and promote mutual growth with partner companies. Kumho Tire is also planning a second phase of investment after selling the Gwangju plant site, which is anticipated to further increase investment and invigorate the local economy.
Kang Wiwon, Vice Governor for Economic Affairs of Jeonnam Province, stated, "Kumho Tire's large-scale investment will serve as a turning point in reshaping the industrial landscape of the southwestern region of Jeonnam, and we will spare no administrative support to ensure the smooth progress of the plant's construction."
An official from Hampyeong County commented, "We will actively support the permit and approval procedures to ensure the smooth construction of the plant, and we will also review measures to establish a certification system for eco-friendly tires in response to strengthened environmental regulations such as Euro 7."
