[US-Iran War] "Weapon Stockpiles Dwindle After Iran Airstrikes... US Defense Contractors to Meet at White House"
The United States is set to meet with defense contractors to replenish its weapons stockpiles depleted by airstrikes against Iran.
Reuters, citing sources on March 3 (local time), reported that the administration of Donald Trump is planning to meet with the heads of major defense contractors on March 6. The meeting is intended to discuss restocking weapons inventories following airstrikes and military operations against Iran. Major defense companies and suppliers, including Lockheed Martin and RTX, will be in attendance.
Reuters noted that the meeting highlights how the rapid consumption of munitions due to the strikes on Iran has made replenishing weapon stockpiles an urgent issue.
Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022 and Israel began military operations in Gaza, the United States has depleted billions of dollars' worth of weapon reserves, including artillery systems, ammunition, and anti-tank missiles. In particular, it is reported that the recent conflict with Iran consumed more long-range missiles than those supplied to Ukraine.
Sources added that the meeting is expected to focus on pressuring defense contractors to further accelerate production expansion. The meeting also comes as Steve Feinberg, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense, is preparing an additional budget request of 50 billion dollars to replenish weapons stockpiles depleted by recent armed conflicts. The additional funds are expected to be used to replenish weapons expended in recent conflicts, including those in the Middle East. However, this amount is provisional and may be subject to change.
