Dpk Holds First Strategic Nomination Committee Meeting: "Aiming To Minimize Strategic Nominations"
The Democratic Party of Korea has launched the first meeting of its Strategic Nomination Management Committee in preparation for the by-elections for local offices and National Assembly seats scheduled for June 3.
Hwang Hee, the Democratic Party’s Strategic Nomination Committee Chair and a lawmaker, met with reporters at the National Assembly on the 26th after the first introductory meeting and said, "Since the party’s basic nomination policy is that it must be transparent and fair, we will strive to keep strategic nominations to a minimum."
Hwang said, "Hasn’t the party leader already declared that he will delegate much of his authority and eliminate unfair nominations and parachute nominations?" He added, "In the case of local elections in general, the Nomination Committee will play the central role."
The Strategic Nomination Management Committee plans to focus its discussions on four constituencies where by-elections are to be held. As of now, the confirmed by-election districts are Gyeyang-B in Incheon, Asan-B in South Chungcheong Province, Pyeongtaek-B in Gyeonggi Province, and Gunsan-Gimje-Buan-A in North Jeolla Province, totaling four constituencies.
In addition, any constituencies that become vacant due to incumbent lawmakers running in the local elections will also be designated as targets for strategic nominations in the by-elections.
