This Policy Advisory Committee of the National Security Office was established to support the government's "national-interest-centered diplomacy and security." It is the first such body launched since President Lee Jaemyung took office.

In addition to traditional security threats, it will also focus on developing response measures to a wide range of challenges arising from the rapidly changing international environment, including new security issues, economic security, and disaster management. The advisory members consist of 54 experts in each field.
Wi Sungrak, director of the National Security Office, personally presided over the appointment ceremony and reviewed opinions on key security issues through the sharing of policy proposals and a comprehensive discussion. Director Wi stressed, "National security is a matter of the people's survival that goes beyond partisan politics," and added, "Please do not hesitate to offer frank opinions and creative proposals regarding our government's policies."
