Busan Gijang-gun Provides Portable Ramps for Small Multi-use Facilities
Twenty Everyday Neighborhood Businesses Selected...Initiative to Create a Barrier-Free Environment
Gijang-gun is promoting a support project to install portable (foldable) ramps at small-scale multi-use facilities in the district. The measure aims to improve accessibility for people with mobility difficulties who experience inconvenience due to level differences at entrances.
Gijang-gun (Mayor Jeong Jongbok) announced on February 9 that it will provide portable ramps free of charge to 20 small-scale multi-use facilities in order to improve everyday convenience for people with mobility difficulties, including wheelchair users, seniors, and pregnant women.
This project targets small facilities with a floor area of less than 300 square meters that are excluded from mandatory installation requirements for convenience facilities under the Act on Guarantee of Promotion of Convenience of Persons with Disabilities, the Aged, and Pregnant Women. The county plans to provide customized portable (foldable) ramps tailored to the entrance conditions of each facility.
The main beneficiaries are everyday neighborhood businesses that residents frequently use, such as restaurants, convenience stores, bookstores, pharmacies, cafes, and beauty salons. Before installing the ramps, officials will conduct on-site visits to check the width of the entrance, the height of the level difference, and pedestrian flow, and then provide products suitable for each facility’s environment.
Business owners who wish to install the ramps can apply by visiting the Disability Welfare Team of the Senior and Disability Welfare Division of Gijang-gun from February 10 to March 31. Eligibility requirements, required documents, and detailed schedules can be found on the county office website under the Notices and Announcements section.
Jeong Jongbok, Mayor of Gijang-gun, said, "By providing portable ramps, we will enhance convenience for people with mobility difficulties and create a barrier-free environment that anyone can use without inconvenience," adding, "We will continue to expand welfare policies that can be tangibly felt in everyday life."
