YES24 Launches "Page&Stage" Highlighting Both the Musical and the Original Novel
First Feature: "Anna Karenina"
Starring Ok Joohyun and Min Younggi
On January 27, YES24, a cultural content platform, announced the launch of a new talk program, "Page&Stage," which highlights the convergence of literature and performing arts.
"Page&Stage" is a talk program that explores the narrative and interpretative intersections shared by original books and stage arts, focusing on literary works that have been reimagined as performances.
The musical "Anna Karenina," which is set to open soon, will be the inaugural feature of "Page&Stage." On February 5 at 7:30 p.m., at YES24 Wonder Rock Hall in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, Alina Chevik, the original director of the musical Anna Karenina, along with actors Ok Joohyun, Moon Yugang, and Min Younggi, will participate in an extensive discussion covering topics from an analysis of the original novel to the process of adapting it for the stage, as well as interpretations of the characters and their emotions. The event will also include interactive programs such as readings of key passages from the book and a photo session with the cast for the audience.
Hyejin Park, editor of world literature at Minumsa, will serve as the moderator.
Approximately 300 audience members will attend the event in person. The participation fee is 5,000 won, and all paying attendees will receive a 5,000-won YES gift certificate and a discount coupon for the musical Anna Karenina.
To celebrate the first "Page&Stage" event, YES24 is also offering special promotions. Until February 5, anyone who leaves a question for the cast in the comments section of the event page will be entered into a drawing, with 10 winners receiving a 1,000-won YES gift certificate. Additionally, five attendees (each receiving two tickets) who share proof of attendance on social media will be selected to receive invitations to the musical Anna Karenina.
The musical Anna Karenina is based on the novel of the same name published in 1878 by the great Russian author Leo Tolstoy.
The original novel Anna Karenina is a long-form work set in 19th-century Russian high society, depicting the conflict between love and marriage, morality, and personal desire. The protagonist, Anna, trapped in a loveless marriage with her husband Alexei Karenin, falls into an affair with the young officer Vronsky. Kitty, who has feelings for Vronsky, is deeply hurt by him but, unlike Anna, finds true love with Levin, a landowner. The novel is particularly famous for its opening line: "All happy families are alike; each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."
The musical Anna Karenina will premiere at the Grand Theater of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts on February 20.
YES24 plans to continuously present "Page&Stage" cultural content throughout the year, in collaboration with "The Musical," the only musical-specialized magazine in Korea, launched in 2000.
