Recently, Lee Joobin appeared on the YouTube channel "Insaeng84" and discussed the identity theft involving her ID photo taken in 2017. She said, "I thought becoming famous would be a good thing, but instead, I started having problems with identity theft." The photo, known for its neat appearance and distinct features, was dubbed the "standard for ID photos" and became widely popular online.
Lee Joobin explained, "My photo was used in so many places-by call center agents, insurance companies, investment solicitations, and used car dealers. People used my face to encourage others to invest and deceive them." She added, "They even forged a resident registration card with my photo, and I received a court summons. The situation escalated to the point where my company asked if I had ever committed investment fraud."
Webtoon artist Kian84, who appeared alongside her, commented, "This photo is so famous. Her face looks trustworthy. If she told me to buy something, I probably would," drawing laughter but also expressing sympathy for the identity theft she experienced.
At the time, Lee Joobin's agency released an official statement in 2019 regarding the unauthorized use of her ID photo and announced a firm stance against such actions.
The agency stated, "We have continuously received reports of Lee Joobin's ID photo being used without permission on illegal sports betting sites and secondhand trading platforms. This is a clear case of defamation and violation of publicity rights, and we will not tolerate any unauthorized use under any circumstances."
