View original imageThe museum announced on the 22nd that Alexander Alberro, professor at Columbia University in the United States and the first fellow selected for the program, arrived in Korea on the 15th and will stay for the next six months to begin research on Korean art. The 'MMCA Research Fellowship' was established to lay the foundation for the internationalization of Korean art discourse by providing leading overseas art scholars with opportunities to stay and conduct research in Korea.
Professor Alberro is an internationally renowned art historian, recognized for his work in conceptual art and institutional critique. During his stay, he will conduct in-depth research using the museum's collections, archives, and exhibitions, and will deepen his understanding of Korean art through exchanges with local researchers and artists. In particular, he plans to introduce topics of interest and share the results of his Korean art research through two public lectures for the general audience scheduled for March and June next year.

Kim Sunghee, Director of the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, stated, "Since the beginning of my tenure, I have emphasized not only Korean art exhibitions but also the international expansion of discourse. This will serve as a platform for that." She added, "I hope that Professor Alberro, as the first researcher, will bring new perspectives to Korean art studies and become a starting point for its international expansion."
