Jeonju Secures 2.2925 Trillion Won in National Funding for Next Year
Up 134 Billion Won from Last Year
Three Consecutive Years Surpassing 2 Trillion Won
Jeonju City in North Jeolla Province has secured 2.2925 trillion won in national funding for next year.
According to the city on December 4, the national budget secured for next year is 134 billion won higher than this year’s original budget of 2.1585 trillion won, marking the third consecutive year that the city has achieved a budget in the 2 trillion won range.
On the same day, Mayor Woo Beomgi of Jeonju and National Assemblyman Lee Sungyun held a briefing in the main conference room on the fourth floor of City Hall regarding efforts to secure national funding for 2026.
When broken down by sector, next year’s national budget includes: 856 billion won for the economy and industry sector; 276.7 billion won for the metropolitan and urban sector; 138.3 billion won for the culture and tourism sector; and 1.0215 trillion won for the welfare and social safety net sector.
In the economy and industry sector, the city secured funding to lead the AI era, including 76.6 billion won for establishing a collaborative intelligence physical AI-based software platform R&D ecosystem and 1 billion won for building an AI reliability verification hub center. The budget also includes 500 million won for the National Jeonju Science Museum, 4.7 billion won for operating a semiconductor joint research institute, and 1.2 billion won for a global innovative medical technology demonstration support center, all aimed at strengthening global market competitiveness and driving next-generation growth industries.
Additionally, the city secured 28.5 billion won for the creation of a national industrial complex for carbon materials and 2.1 billion won for establishing standards and certification infrastructure for carbon products, accelerating Jeonju’s transformation into a strong economic city leading the advancement of Korea’s materials and manufacturing industries.
In the metropolitan and urban sector, the city obtained funding for the Honam Region Jeonju Sports Value Center (200 million won), which will carry on the Olympic spirit and allow people to experience the positive value of sports. Other allocations include 48.2 billion won for the construction of the Yongjin~Uah national road bypass, 8 billion won for the Jeonju Station improvement project, 7.2 billion won for the Girindaero BRT, and 500 million won for traffic improvements to National Route 1 (connecting Sookgogaero and Honam-ro), all aimed at building metropolitan transportation infrastructure and laying the foundation for a future-oriented city.
In the culture and tourism sector, the budget includes 300 million won for the Jeonjubuseong maintenance and restoration project, which will transform the declining old downtown into a historical and cultural space and establish Jeonju as a distinguished historical city; 200 million won for the construction of the Ganjae Seonbi Cultural Training Center, which will contribute to the cultivation of mind and body in the Confucian tradition and popularize Korean Confucian culture; and 250 million won for hosting the Jeonju International Picture Book Fair, which aims to elevate Jeonju as a global city of picture book culture.
The city also secured 400 million won for establishing smart local children’s centers, 500 million won for constructing the main building of Jeonju Sarangui House, and 9.8 billion won for building the Jeonbuk Regional Integrated Rehabilitation Hospital, all as part of welfare infrastructure development. Additionally, 600 million won was allocated for slope stabilization on Gyeonhwon-ro and 1.5 billion won for disaster risk area improvements along Gaeksacheon, strengthening the city’s social safety infrastructure.

Mayor Woo Beomgi stated, “This year, Jeonju City made every effort to secure national funding in close cooperation with North Jeolla Province and local political circles, based on a grand blueprint for the next 100 years to firmly establish the framework for a major transformation.” He added, “We will do our utmost to ensure that the secured national budget permeates every aspect of citizens’ lives, realizing a dynamic and vibrant economic transformation for Jeonju and creating a city of continuous development.”
