Hapcheon County Supports Local Wholesale Market Auction Fees to Ease Farmers' Burden
Successful Local Garlic and Onion Auctions
9,656 Tons of Dried Garlic, Green Garlic, and Early-Harvest Onions Traded
Hapcheon County, South Gyeongsang Province, announced on November 27, 2025, that it has implemented a support project worth a total of 1 billion KRW to promote shipments to local wholesale markets. This initiative aims to reduce auction commission fees for shipping farmers, following the successful completion of auctions for dried garlic, green garlic, and early-harvest onions at the local wholesale markets.
This year, the local wholesale market auctions were operated mainly by Hapcheon Eastern Nonghyup and Hapcheon Sae Nambu Nonghyup, with a total of 9,656 tons traded, including 9,576 tons of dried garlic, 854 tons of green garlic, and 91 tons of early-harvest onions. This volume is similar to last year's single-item dried garlic transaction volume (9,739 tons). This year, the auction categories were expanded to include green garlic and early-harvest onions, which received a positive response from farmers.

View original imageThe average auction price for dried garlic in 2025 was 4,155 KRW per kilogram (83,100 KRW per sack), showing a slight increase compared to the previous year's average price of 3,771 KRW per kilogram. In particular, Hapcheon Eastern Nonghyup saw an increase of 514 tons in volume and an increase of 6 billion KRW in auction revenue compared to last year.
Since 2022, the county has been providing annual commission fee support of around 1 billion KRW to promote shipments to local wholesale markets. This year, a total of 1 billion KRW was provided to 2,615 farmers. The support rate this year was 2.4%, and the county secured a budget equal to last year to reduce the burden on farmers.

A county official stated, "As farmers are facing increasing difficulties due to climate change and rising production costs, we will do our utmost to strengthen the competitiveness of local wholesale markets and secure stable sales channels."
