Reorganizing the Foundation for Joint Infectious Disease Response
Through Medical and Pharmacists' Association Meetings
Taebaek City in Gangwon Province (Mayor Lee Sangho) will resume the operation of the 'Taebaek City Medical Council' based on the experience and lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, aiming to strengthen the region's capacity to respond to infectious diseases.
The city plans to accelerate the establishment of an organic cooperation system with local medical institutions by holding a medical association meeting on the 18th and a pharmacists' association meeting on November 27 in succession.
COVID-19 reaffirmed the importance of rapid information sharing and close coordination between institutions during infectious disease disaster situations.
Accordingly, Taebaek City intends to reorganize the cooperation structure centered on the medical council and clearly define the roles of the public health center, the medical association, and the pharmacists' association to ensure a more systematic and swift response in crisis situations.
The upcoming meetings will focus on discussing the following topics: analysis of infectious disease trends and major risk factors in Taebaek City; outlook and response strategies for infectious diseases such as seasonal influenza; and plans for linking and cooperating on vaccination programs.
In addition, practical cooperation tasks such as improving the efficiency of quarantine and therapeutic management, establishing a remote consultation system for medically underserved areas, and enhancing information-sharing systems between institutions will also be reviewed.
